THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Clarabelle (Claire) Schmeltzer, 86, of Marquette passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 12 at her home in the care of family and caregivers.
Born in Daggett, Mi. on Aug. 2, 1927, daughter of Russell, Sr. and Mabel Plutchak of Ingalls, she graduated in 1944 from Stephenson High School and in 1948 from Northern Michigan College. She retired from the State of Michigan Department of Social Services in 1988 following 28 years of employment.
Survivors include two daughters, Terry (Mark) Dennis and Jan Peck (John Peterson); two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Patricia (Henry) Truitt and Sherry Dickerson; a sister-in-law, Patricia Plutchak and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, in 1970; a brother, Russell Plutchak Jr. and a sister, Shirley Bryla.
Private family graveside services will be held at the Holy Cross Cemetery next Spring. To honor her spirit, memorials can be made to the Marquette Adult Day Care Services, 305 W. Magnetic St., Marquette, MI 49855 or the charity of ones choice. The Fassbender Funeral Home is assisting the family.
