Coleman Wraps Up 16-0 League Mark, Repeats As Champs

Claiming a pair of victories at the Crivitz triangular Thursday, the Coleman Cougars put the finishing touches on their second straight M-O Conference title with a 16-0 readout. The talented Cougars swept Suring and the host Wolverines to claim the championship by two games over second place Peshtigo.

“We as a team discussed what we wanted to accomplish this season in conference. We wanted to go undefeated and we wanted to do it by taking every match in three games,” said first-year Cougar boss Saantha Stickney. “These young ladies worked very hard for this goal, out of the 16 matches, only one went to four games. I’m very proud of these young ladies.”

The Bulldogs (14-2) ended league play on a winning note beating STAA in 4 games before sweeping Gillett. Third place Niagara whipped Lena and Wausaukee in a season-ending triangular at Lena.

Coleman Netters

Sweep Triangular

A couple of close second frames aside, the Coleman netters had little trouble notching a pair of victories in Crivitz Thursday night. The Cougars took care of Suring 25-17, 28-26, 25-19 before defeating the host team Wolverines 25-11, 25-23, 25-20.

Makenzie Sadowski added 24 kills to her total for the season in addition to a pair of aces, seven blocks and four digs. A very busy Lindsey Kerr turned in 59 assists, 34 digs four aces and three kills. Abby Bieber had 14 kills, an ace, four blocks and 23 digs while Sammy Schaal chipped in six kills, four blocks, four assists and 10 digs.

Vikki Neumann turned in 10 kills, four digs and an assist to lead the Wolverines while teammate Jen Kempka added 24 assists, two aces, six digs and a kill.

Suring, which took a 25-8, 20-25, 25-20, 25-15 win over Crivitz, got 25 digs, 17 assists, two kills and three aces from Kelsey School in addition to 28 digs, 24 kills and two aces from Calley VanBellinger.

Bulldogs Wrap Season

With Two M-O Victories

The Peshtigo Bulldogs got a second-game punch in the nose from STAA Thursday during triangular play in Gillett but managed to keep their composure to finish the regular season in convincing fashion by beating the Cavalettes 25-3, 22-25, 25-12, 25-18 and then breezing past the Tigers 25-16, 25-17, 25-13.

"I don't think it was so much that we played poorly, STAA really wanted it after that first game loss," Peshtigo head coach Lynn Tonn Kostreva said of the defeat in game two against the Cavalettes. "Then I think the girls found their groove and really played well together."

Carly Dietrich finished the evening with 45 digs, nine kills and an ace; Nicole Motkowski had 25 digs, 20 assists, four blocks, eight kills and three aces; Teja Tonn had six aces, 18 kills, two blocks and 22 digs while Maizie Reif turned in 32 digs, one block, four kills and four aces.

Gillett, winners over STAA by a final of 25-18, 25-12, 25-5, got 11 kills, a block, two assists and eight digs from Brianna Lemirande; 21 assists, two digs and eight aces from Jessica Anderson while Taylor Kohls had 11 kills, a block and two digs.

STAA was led by 10 kills, a block, four assists, a dig and an ace from Alissa Hornick while teammate Linsey Hannon had an assist, 13 digs and four aces.

Badgers Take Pair

At Lena Tri-Meet

The Niagara netters lost not a single game Thursday in Lena as they defeated the Wausaukee Rangers 25-22, 25-21, 25-20 and then took care of the host team Wildcats 25-10, 25-13, 25-22.

Shelby Borchardt dug 67 shots from the opposition while turning in three kills and two aces; Brooklyn Wolosyn had 14 kills, a block, a dig, two aces and an assist while Shanna Nordell led the team in kills with 16, along with a block, two digs and 10 assists.

Lena was sparked by Hailey Saiter's eight kills, two digs, 12 assists and six aces; Melissa Bushmaker had seven kills, three blocks, five digs, five assists and two aces to go along with Kayla VanLanen's seven kills, seven digs, three assists and three aces.

Wausaukee swept Lena 25-20, 25-15 and 25-14 was led by Kaylor DeLaet, who finished the evening with 24 assists, two blocks, 12 kills and seven aces; Crysta Clark turned in 14 assists, nine kills and four aces while Ana Baca had five aces, 10 kills and an assist.
