Charlotte V. (Gibeault) Powers
Charlotte Veronica (Gibeault) Powers , 99, of rural Peshtigo passed away unexpectedly at Bay Area Medical Center on Friday, Oct. 25.
Born Feb. 16, 1914 in Coleman to the late Aristide and Evelyn (LaValley) Gibeault, she graduated from Coleman High School in 1932. On June 28, 1941, she married John E. "Jack" Powers in Coleman and they celebrated 59 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2001.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Peshtigo and lived most of her life in the Peshtigo area, attending Marinette County Teachers College, graduating in 1933. In 1965 she graduated from UW-Oshkosh with a BS degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career in one room school houses in the Coleman and Harmony areas and ended her career teaching 6th grade for many years at Peshtigo Elementary School, retiring in 1977.
She was a great lady and an inspiration to all, living a long and wonderful life and touching many with her positive outlook and determination. The family is lucky to have shared so many years with her and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna (Wayne) Jensen, of Milwaukee and Leila (Terry) Wanke, of Sun City, Az.; three sons, John (Lorraine), of Blue Springs, Mo, Dale (Patty), of Crivitz and Dean (Debby), of Salida, Co.; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Clara, of Mukwonago; two sisters-in-law, Philomine (Phil) Powers, of Crivitz and Gloria Larson, of Menomonee Falls; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews and special friends, Debbie Garbrecht and Pat Stibbe.
In addition to her husband, Jack, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jean; an infant son, Peter; four brothers, Harris, George, Leonard, and Paul and five sisters, Lucille, Leona, Beatrice, Adeline, and Marie.
Visitation was held Tuesday evening, Oct. 29 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by a rosary and prayer service. Visitation continued Wednesday, Oct. 30 from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, Peshtigo followed by burial. A luncheon was then held in the parish hall. Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home assisted the family.
