Diane Marie Gronert, 69, of Niagara passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Dickinson County Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Born Sept. 29, 1944, to Michael and Mae (Trudell) Ponzio, she graduated from Niagara High School in 1962 and married William Gronert on Oct. 31, 1964. Together they shared 48 wonderful years and raised two sons, Michael and Scott. The couple owned and operated Culligan Water Conditioning of Iron Mountain for nearly 20 years.
In her spare time she enjoyed swimming, picking four leaf clovers, crocheting afghans and spending time with her grandchildren, Megan and Jack. Her passion was her gardens, giving away perennial plants by the truck loads.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Gronert (partner Tom Paulikas), of Milwaukee and Scott Gronert (Emmy), of Iron Mountain; two grandchildren; four brothers, Ray (Sharon Ann) Ponzio, of Niagara, Bruce (Deborah) Ponzio, of Florida, Robert Ponzio and Russell (Lisa) Ponzio, both of Escanaba; three sisters, Patricia (Bob Lee) Carrington, of Ann Arbor, Debra (Milan) Christi, of Denver, Colo., and Carol (Jeff) Ballard, of Huntington Beach, Calif. and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Mae Ponzio; her husband, Bill Gronert and a sister, Sharon Vaught.
A celebration of her life was held on Monday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Kingsford. Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain assisted the family with arrangements.
