Gordon W. Coulter
Gordon Wallace Coulter, 82, of Elgin, Ia. passed away Friday, Nov. 15 at the Good Samaritan Center, West Union, Ia.
Born June 8, 1931 to Orren and Vesta (Heaston) Coulter in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he attended Dodge School, Bloomer School and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs in 1949. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy and sailed around the world on the USS Haynsworth. After being honorably discharged in 1954, he continued his education at Iowa State College and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959. He married Carol Peterson June 8, 1954 in Marinette and their three daughters are Leanne, Mary and Lisa.
He worked for Western Electric, Bell Telephone and AT & T all his adult life. A member of Central Baptist Church in Naperville, Ill. and Bethany Evangelical Church in La Crosse, he enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, target practice, coin collecting, puzzles, being a handy man, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of 59 years; three daughters, Leanne (Steve) Carlson, of Elgin, Mary (John) Bowman, of Verona and Lisa (Jon) Abrahamsonk of Lakeville, Minn.; six grandchildren and a niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orren and Vesta Coulter; a step-mother, Gerda Coulter and a sister-in-law, Marjory Dustman.
Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Elgin. Rev. Lee Boleyn officiated followed by Inurnment with military rites at the Elgin Cemetery. Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elgin assisted the family with arrangements.
