THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Lucille M. (Vlies) McDougal
Lucille Mildred (Vlies) McDougal, 93, passed away Nov. 23 at Rennes Health Care Center-West where she resided for the last six years, while holding the hand of her only son, Richard.
Born Oct. 7, 1920 in Oconto to Martin and Stella Vlies, she was the youngest of four children. While in high school, she met her future husband, Thomas McDougal, whom she married in 1940. They moved to Peshtigo in 1946 after his discharge from the Army and remained lifelong residents there.
Her greatest legacy, as well as her husbands, is having been wonderful grandparents. Their generosity and loving care towards their family has proved to be a model for their children and grandchildren, who called them Nan and Pappa, as did many of the kids in the neighborhood.
She is survived by her son, Richard and daughter-in-law, Jeanne; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two nephews and a niece.
Along with her husband, Thomas who preceded her in death in August of 2005, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael (Claire) Vlies; two sisters, Laverne (Frank) Klozotsky and Ruth (John) Peshek.
A private ceremony celebrating her life will be held at Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home.
