419 Boxes Collected for Operation Christmas Child
The Wausaukee relay center of Operation Christmas Child took in 419 boxes including many additional items that combined to fill more boxes. Elementary students from Wausaukee and Crivitz provided school supplies that combined with a large amount of community donated items for 140 boxes. Associated with the school, Lamers Bus Lines also filled several boxes. Many area churches, daycares, and several individuals have eagerly participated with this outreach program. Several grandparents and grandchildren enjoyed the experience together. Thanks to the Peshtigo Times for featuring OCC articles submitted and helping promote awareness of this global connection with children in need thousands of miles away.
Next year the traditional red/green logo boxes will not be readily available to centers. We are encouraging community members to save regular size shoeboxes to have available for the 2014 collection. Back to school sales in the summer are an affordable way to stock up on items for the yearly collection.
A sincere thank you to the many people who contributed their time, provided packed boxes, offered shipping money, or shopped for extra needed items for Operation Christmas Child.
