Marinette Boys Earn Bay Conference Split
The Marinette Marines came up with a split in Bay Conference action this past week, topping Denmark 40-32 Friday before falling to the states number one ranked team Seymour Tuesday 65-16.
The split leaves coach Nick Semenas and his troops with a 1-3 overall record and 1-1 in the Bay circuit. Marinette will return to the hardwood court Friday with a road trip to West DePere before hosting Oconto Falls on Tuesday, December 17.

For First Victory 40-32
The Marinette Marines picked up their first win of the season in dramatic fashion Friday night as they stumbled out of the gate but then pulled it together for a convincing 40-32 victory.
Outscored 12-4 in the opening frame, the Marines turned the tables on Denmark in the second as they poured in 12 points while cranking up their defensive effort and holding the home team Vikings to just three points. The Marines, once ahead, managed to keep the proverbial foot on the gas as they maintained their advantage with a 10-8 effort in the third and then closed it out by outscoring Denmark 14-9 in the closing quarter.
Marcus Maguire led the Marines in the hard-fought victory as he led all scorers with 16.
Marines Roughed Up

Going up against tough and talented Seymour Tuesday, the Marines had all sorts of troubles before suffering that 65-16 defeat.
Marinette did manage to take an early 3-2 lead, but trailed 19-3 at the first break and never threatened again. By halftime the Marines were on the short end of a 29-7 deficit before getting outscored 36-9 over the final two frames.
Marinette turned the ball over 26 times in the lopsided loss while hitting on 6 of 26 shots (23%).
Garrett Waloway fired in 9 points to lead the Marines while Marcus Maguire added 6.
Seymour was paced by Dakota Oskey with 15 points while Marquette University recruit Sandy Cohen was limited to just two points in the game.
Seymour made it a clean sweep with a 66-37 jayvee win and a 37-20 victory in the freshman outing.
