Donald J. Hartwig
Donald James Hartwig, 81, of Peshtigo, passed away Dec. 14 at Rennes Health Center-West.
Born on Sept. 17, 1932, son of the late Wallace and Jeanette (May) Hartwig, he married the former Dorothy Caebe on April 8, 1950. A member of Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo and the Card Club 16 for over 50 years, he worked at Badger Paper Mill for over 43 years, retiring in 1994.
He had a gift of building anything with wood and built his own cabin where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed his rides in the country, riding his scooter, listening to polka music, playing his hum-strum and inventing gadgets.
He is survived by, three sons, Michael (Susan) Hartwig, Dennis Hartwig and James Hartwig; five daughters, Patti (Paul) Sutek, Susan (Clarence) Coble, Christine (Tim Dudka) Swiatnicki, Kathleen (Phil) Frederiksen and Sherry (Wayne) Zeske; two sisters, Janet (Mylon) Lange and Sandra Heil; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Knaack, Edith LaCombe, and Vera Caebe; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wallace Hartwig and two brothers-in-law, Donald LaCombe and Donald Caebe.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Zion Lutheran Church in Peshtigo from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon with Pastor Luke Myslik officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Marinette. Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
