Crivitz Fire Chief Stu Swanson Retires Dec. 31

The Crivitz Village Board at their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. accepted the retirement of Fire Chief Stewart Swanson and passed a resolution acknowledging him for his service.

Swanson, who has held the position of for 40 years, will retire as Fire Chief from the Crivitz Fire Department effective Dec. 31. SwansonHe will continue to act as the Department fire inspector.

Village Board President John Deschane, who had served on the fire department with Swanson in the past, stated, I think I can speak on behalf of not only the village board currently, but all village boards that we 've had as well as the citizens of the community and thank you for your dedicated service.

The board formalized their appreciation of Swanson 's service by passing resolution 259.

In a letter to the village board, Swanson stated, I have enjoyed leading the Department for the last 40 years and have had excellent co-operation from the Village Boards past and present as well as Fire Department members. I feel that I 've leaving the Department in good hands with Rudi Jenson taking over as Chief.

In other fire department news, the board approved the payment from the general fund to Fire Services of $704.50, which is to be used for fire department face plate fittings and annual airpack testing.

The board approved the payment of $1686 to Richlen Excavating for sewer line repair on 1216 Rosa Ave. The homeowner had investigated a blockage in the line and discovered that the pipe connecting the home to the sewer system had become damaged. The damaged pipe was replaced by the village.

The board approved a motion to allow Crivitz Police Officer Spencer Elias to use his dog as a Crivitz Police K-9 dog. The board approved the motion on the condition that there would be no cost to the village except for annual Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Handler Association (WLECHA) training. The Crivitz Police Department was granted the right to solicit donations for any other K-9 expenses. The dog was donated to Elias by Craig Kasten. The board also approved a motion to purchase new tires for the police squad vehicle at a cost not to exceed $600.

During the meeting, the board approved the financial report and committed fund balances and the general and TIF fund budget adjustments. Also approved was the General Fund Vouchers from Nov. 20 to Dec. 17 for a total of $80,984.64 and the water fund vouchers from Nov. 20 to Dec. 17 for a total of $45,140.99. The board approved the sewer fund approved vouchers from Nov. 20 to Dec. 17 for $20,727.17. The agenda and the minutes from the village board meeting on Nov. 19 were also approved.

Board members in attendance included President John Deschane, clerk/treasurer Marilyn Padgett and trustees; Fred Franzen, Dick Kaminski, Shirley Keller, Kurt Kostuch, Janis Porfilio and Duane Swanson. Members of the public present were Tom May, Steward Swanson, Spencer Elias and the press.
