Rodger Eklund Sr.
A former prominent Peshtigo business man, Rodger Eklund Sr., 89, died Monday, Dec. 23, at Rennes Health Center-West, Peshtigo with his wife and four children at his side.
Born Jan. 21, 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. Leander (Elizabeth) Eklund, he married the former Marjorie Devroy on Sept. 28, 1946 at St. Marys Church in Peshtigo. The couple are both 1942 graduates of Peshtigo High School.
He was involved in many business ventures including operation of the former Eklund Convalescent Home with his mother, Eklund Trucking and Eklund Insurance from where he retired. The insurance business is presently operated by his son, Rodger Jr.
He was the youngest member on the Planning Committee for the construction of St. Marys Church and School in Peshtigo.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations and participated in the D-Day Operation on June 6, 1944. He was a former alderman on the Peshtigo City Council.
Through the years, he and his wife enjoyed spending many winters in Florida.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie who is also a resident at Rennes Health Center-West; one son Rodger (Shirley) Eklund and three daughters, Judy (Richard) Michalski, Mary Kay (Tim) Duket and Susan (Keith) Felmer, all of Peshtigo. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Lynn Cohorst who died Oct. 27, 2010, one sister, Lorraine Skowlund and a brother, Andrew Eklund.
Viewing will be held Friday, Dec. 27, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Marys Church in Peshtigo. Rev. Father Jack Harper will officiate at the Funeral Mass which will follow.
