THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Brad Corry, 34, Wausau, formerly of Superior, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 29 at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau following a long battle with cancer.
Born in Marinette on Jan. 17, 1979, son of Timothy and Laura (Bassen) Corry, he graduated from Northwestern High School in Maple and played football at Northwestern High School and for Superior Stampede. He received a degree from UW-Superior in Economics and Finance. He married Deanna Rantala on Oct. 11, 2008 in Poplar and they recently celebrated five years of marriage. He was in the United States Marine Corp from 1997 to 2005 and was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, hiking, reading, weight lifting, football and wrestling with his two sons.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna, Wausau; two sons, Gunnar and Finn Corry, Wausau; his mother, Laura (Glenn) Johnson, Beaverton, Or.; his father, Timothy (Wendy) Corry and a sister, Jessica (Jared) Gehl, both of Lake Nebagamon; a brother, Aaron Corry, Superior; maternal grandparents, Leonard and Carol Bassen, Menomonee and Joan Johnson, Milwaukee; paternal grandparents, John and Margaret Corry, Marinette and Jeff and Diana Buhr, Lake Nebagamo; his father and mother-in-law, Clifford and Lynn Rantala, Oulu; many sisters and brothers-in-law; aunts; uncles, nieces; nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Don Johnson, Sr.
Visitation was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 at Bayside Baptist Church in Superior from 11 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mark Pavola, officiating. Pallbearers for the service were Thor Kurtz, Chad Flowers, Aaron Corry, Jessica Gehl, Gregg Vial and Greg Kurtz. Memorials may be made to the Be the Match Foundation associated with the National Bone Marrow Donors Program or the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Minneapolis, Minn. Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
