The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) northeast region office in Green Bay announces a public information meeting will be held for the replacement of the US 141 bridge over the Wausaukee River in Wausaukee in 2014 and the reconstruction of 1.23 miles of US 141 from WIS 180 to Division Street in 2016. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wausaukee High School. There will be a short presentation at 5:10 p.m.
The US 141 bridge over the Wausaukee River is being replaced with a single span concrete structure. The bridge will have sidewalks on both sides of the road with a decorative railing.
In 2016, WisDOT also plans to reconstruct US 141 with new asphalt pavement, replace the storm sewer, make minor changes to the roadway profile improving drainage and at intersections to improve motorist and pedestrian safety, add curb and gutter will be added from County C to Division Street, add sidewalk will be added along the east side of US 141 from WIS 180 to Monroe Ave; from Beach Ave to North Ave.; along the west side of US 141 from Monroe Ave to Van Buren Ave.; and from Tyler Ave to Division St., eliminate parking US 141 will be eliminated.
The meeting is being held in an open house format and the public is encouraged to provide input and ask questions concerning this project. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis and receive comments.
Several permanent right of way acquisitions and temporary grading easements will be necessary to complete the proposed project, but WisDOT does not anticipate the need to purchase any homes or buildings. Preliminary plans will be displayed at this meeting showing the proposed permanent and temporary real estate.
Traffic will be impacted during both construction projects. US 141 northbound traffic will remain on US 141 throughout construction and will be shifted to one side or the other to accommodate construction staging. US 141 southbound traffic will be directed to a signed detour route on local streets. The detour route will follow Division St, Tyler Ave, and 1st St. Access to properties along the project route will be maintained for emergency service vehicles, homeowners, retail owners and their customers except for limited periods of time during underground utility relocations, sidewalk replacements and driveway improvements. Advance notice will be given to property owners prior to driveway access being restricted.
