Eugene R. Castello, 88, of Marinette passed away Thursday, Jan. 9 at the Luther Home.
Born April 8, 1925 to Eugene and Mary (Bogetto) Castello in Negaunee, Mi., he graduated from Baraga High School in Marquette, Mi. in 1944. After graduation he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He then attended St. Norbert College where he earned a BA degree in Education and later acquired his Masters Degree in Guidance from MSU. He married Corliss Young on Nov. 26, 1959, at St. Peters Cathedral in Marquette. He worked as a guidance counselor in Cadott, until moving to Marinette in 1966. He then worked for the Marinette Public Schools as the Guidance Director until retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa, NEA, WEAC and MEA.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Corliss; two sons, Steven (Michele) Castello, of Delafield and Peter (Barbara) Roepke, of Medford; three grandchildren and a sister, Dolores Vallot, of Beaumont, Tx.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald.
Friends called at Thielen Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Rev. Joseph Dorner officiated with entombment in Forest Home Mausoleum. Honors were provided by the Military 20 Year Club.
