Bulldogs Move To 8-0

Clobber Crivitz

48-17; Coleman

Routs STAA

Sparked by a stingy defensive performance, the M-O Conference leading Peshtigo Bulldogs moved to 8-0 with a 48-17 win over visiting Crivitz Friday. The Bulldogs limited Crivitz to six points or less in each quarter to improve their season readout to 10-2.

Second place Coleman also enjoyed an easy win, clobbering the STAA Cavalettes 66-9. This game was over by halftime as the Cougars built up a commanding 35-5 edge.

Elsewhere in league play, Suring nipped Niagara 48-38 while Gillett handed Wausaukee its 8th straight loss 39-26.

The girls saw their Tuesday night contests get postponed thanks to another cold spell from Mother Nature. Makeup dates find Peshtigo visiting Suring on Feb. 14, Niagara heading to Wausaukee Feb. 20 and Lena traveling to Crivitz Feb. 22.

No date has been finalized for STAA hosting Gillett.

League games slated for Friday, January 31 have Coleman heading to Gillett, Lena entertaining Suring, STAA taking the hike to Niagara and Wausaukee visiting Peshtigo.

-Friday’s Results-

Bulldogs Storm

Past Wolverines

Peshtigo, defending its home court against the visiting Crivitz Wolverines (2-9, 2-6), started Friday night's game strong, steaming ahead to a 24-8 halftime advantage to put the conference clash out of reach.

"I think we moved the ball better tonight than we have been lately," said Peshtigo head coach Bob Kuchta. "We were missing a lot of our shots but the girls did a great job pulling down a ton of offensive rebounds. Second chance points I think were the difference in the game. Crivitz played a tough defensive game. They really packed it in the middle so we couldn't really get any high-post touches."

It was a solid overall effort on the part of the home team Bulldogs, who were led by 11 points from Brittany Marquardt and nine from Carly Dietrich.

Crivitz was paced by six apiece from Jennifer Kempka and Sydney Baumann.

Cougars Clobber

Cavalettes 66-9

Up 18-4 following one quarter of play and then 35-5 at halftime, Coleman cruised to a 66-9 M-O win Friday night at home.

"We are starting the 2nd round of the conference schedule so we know teams will be used to what we do a little more," said Coleman head coach Jeff Bronson. "The first time around we catch teams off guard since we are one of the very few non-zone teams and it takes them some time to adjust. Our intentions are to continue to improve and continue to work daily. I think that the players understand our goal is to get better and are working to achieve that goal."

Makenzie Sadowski led all scorers with 20 points; McKenzie Kostreva had 11 and Abby Bieber chipped in nine.

Past Niagara

The Suring Eagles jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the opening frame Friday in Niagara and kept it together the rest of the way as they withstood a comeback effort by the Badgers and won the M-O contest 48-38.

Niagara bounced back from its opening-frame disappointment by outscoring the visitors 12-8 in the second but were unable to close the 10-point gap that stayed with them the remainder of the contest, in spite of a big 24-point performance from Niagara's Brooklyn Wolosyn.

"We had a slow start in the first quarter against Suring's full-court pressure," said Niagara head coach Laura Gunderson. "We made a run in the second quarter, hitting key shots from Wolosyn as well as getting a spark off the bench from (Shanna) Nordell defensively. We fought hard to the end and did a much better job in the second half."

Suring's all-around offensive effort was led by 12 points from Erin Fisher and 11 from Kelsey School. Breanna Tienor turned in nine for the winners.

Gillett Knocks Off

Wausaukee 39-26

Building up a 23-13 halftime lead, Gillett topped visiting Wausaukee Friday 39-26.

Marissa Sherman netted 13 points for the Tigers while Alexis Ranallo added 14 for Wausaukee.
