Elizabeth Betty Hanchek, 84, of Carney, Mi.passed away Wednesday Jan. 29 at Marquette General Hospital.
Born July 14, 1929 in Gourley Township, Mi., to the late James and Anna (Blahnik) Kalishek, she married Theodore Hanchek on Oct. 10, 1953 at St. Bruno Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on May 9, 1993. She was a teacher and librarian at Carney Nadeau Public Schools for many years.
She enjoyed traveling, cards, gardening and reading, but loved most, being with her family. A member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, she was also a member of St. Anne 's Society, the Red Hats and Bagley Homemakers.
Survivors include her children, Fran (Anne), Katy (Dan) Ditto, Dick (Debbie), Bill (Kathy), Sue (Ron) Kalla, Barb (Bill) Foster, Mike (Kim) and Carolyn (Glenn) Watters; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, John H. Kalishek and Richard E. (Margaret) Kalishek; and an uncle, Herman Blahnik, of whom she was caregiver for many years.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Benjamin Watters and two brothers, Robert and James Kalishek.
Family and friends called at St. Bruno Catholic Church in Nadeau on Saturday, Feb. 1 after 11 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. with Father Michael Vichich officiating. Burial will be in Nadeau Township Cemetery in the spring. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
