First Place At Stake In M-O

League Leading Peshtigo Takes 9-0

Mark To Coleman

First place in the M-O Conference will be on the line Thursday night when Peshtigo takes its league leading 9-0 readout to Coleman (8-1) in a battle of top powers. The top two teams in the M-O shared the title last year and Peshtigo is looking to duplicate its 35-26 win from December 20.

A victory by the Bulldogs would all but wrap up the league crown and put them up two games in the loss column. A Coleman win would force a tie at the top with six games left.

This past week both teams pursed lopsided wins as Peshtigo whipped Wausaukee 73-20 while the Cougars took care of Gillett 54-28.

The girls will play double duty this week with games slated for Feb. 6 and Monday, Feb. 10. Peshtigo heads to STAA on Monday while Coleman entertains Niagara.

Bulldogs Blast

Wausaukee 73-20

There 's a fact about the Peshtigo girls ' basketball squad that head coach Bob Kuchta is very quick to point out in conversation these days:

"We 've got 10 players on the team and they can all score."

It 's true. And the Bulldogs proved it once again Friday night as they overwhelmed the visiting Rangers of Wausaukee in a 73-20 game that saw every player on the home squad 's roster get into the scoring column.

Peshtigo screamed ahead to a 28-9 lead after the game 's first eight minutes of play and were never threatened at all in this one.

Brittany Marquardt turned in 11 points to lead the winners; Saige Ruleau had 10; Teja Tonn and Carly Dietrich each had nine while Amanda Emmes and Ryleigh Klaver had eight apiece.

Crysta Clark had seven points to lead Wausaukee, followed closely by teammate Alexis Ranallo 's five.

Cougars Cruise

Past Gillett 54-28

The Coleman girls got 14 points from Makenzie Sadowski, 13 from Abby Bieber and 10 from Hope Process as they took care of Gillett Friday by a final of 54-28.

Coleman, making a habit of turning basketball games into blowouts as of late, was up 24-8 at the halftime break before throwing up a 22-8 third frame to put the game well out of reach.

Kara Brennan led the Tigers in defeat with her 10 points.

Badgers Run

Past STAA

Most everybody got in on the scoring action for Niagara Friday as the Badgers built a 26-8 halftime lead over the visiting Cavalettes en route to a 51-19 victory.

Brooklyn Wolosyn clocked 14 points for the winners and was the game 's high scorer. Niagara also got eight from Casey Spigarelli and seven from Marah Harvath.

STAA was led by Breeana Armburst, who turned in 10.

Suring Takes Road

Victory Over Lena

The Wildcats put together a 14-point fourth quarter and made the game close but they couldn 't overcome a solid outing from Suring, which left town with the 36-27 win after the low-scoring affair had ended.

Suring got 10 from Breanna Tienor and nine from Kelsey School while Lena saw Kayla VanLanen pour in 11.

-Non League Results-

Lena Falls To

NEW Lutheran

Kayla VanLanen racked up 18 points to lead all scorers while teammate Melissa Bushmaker added 11 but the Lena Wildcats couldn 't handle the offensive output of NEW Lutheran of Green Bay, losing the non-conference contest by a final score of 56-42 Saturday.

Sadie Nier had 15 for NEW Lutheran and Keifer Zimmerman added 17.

STAA Comes Up

Just Short 35-31

After finishing the game 's opening quarter ahead 12-6 Monday night, the Cavalettes fell asleep and let Sevastapol outscore them 14-2 in the second frame. The lopsided second frame spelled doom for the home team as STAA came up short on the scoreboard in the 35-31 final.

Riley Schultz had 12 for STAA to go along with nine from Taylor Wilson while Sevastapol got 14 from Adaline Nelson to lead all scorers.

Suring Crushes

White Lake

Up 19-3 after the buzzer sounded on the first quarter, Suring easily cruised to a 56-12 non-conference victory against White Lake on Monday.

Kelsey School and Jacquelyn Lenz led the overwhelming performance for the Eagles with 10 each to go along with eight from Calley VanBellinger.

Crivitz Loses

To Florence

The Wolverines got 11 points from Victoria Neumann and eight from Sydney Baumann but ended up losing on the road to Florence Thursday by a final of 38-31.

Peshtigo Bumps

Sturgeon Bay

The Peshtigo girls opened the game strong on their homecourt versus Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday, putting up 15 points in the game 's first eight minutes to take a 15-4 lead over the visitors on their way to a 40-28 non-conference victory.

Peshtigo 's Ryleigh Klaver led all scorers with her 14 points while teammate Carly Dietrich chipped in 10.

Tigers Can 't Handle

James, Blue Devils

On the strength of 20 first half points from standout guard Laken James, the Oconto Blue Devils rushed out to a 51-16 lead over Gillett and then kept the pressure up for a 66-31 victory.

James finished with 22 while Emily Shallow added 20 for the winners.

Kara Brennan turned in 11 for Gillett in defeat.

Lena Beats Tigerton

The Wildcats got big a couple of big individual scoring performances on Tuesday night as they hit the road and handed Tigerton a 43-36 non-conference loss.

Kayla VanLanen led the way with 18 points while teammate Melissa Bushmaker poured in 15 as Lena overcame a 13-11 deficit after the first quarter.
