Born in Milwaukee on July 8, 1941 to Joseph and Martha DeCleene, she was the oldest of 13 children. She lived in Coleman, Green Bay and Milwaukee during her childhood and graduated from Holy Angels Academy, Milwaukee in 1959. After graduation she joined the Navy and served for three years. She spent most of her time at USNTC, Great Lakes and Illinois. In July of 1963 she married Gerald (Jerry) Schumacher in Kodiak, Ak. and in May of 1964 their daughter Kathleen (Kathy) was born. They survived through the earthquake and tidal wave that took place in Kodiak, Ak., in 1964 and sheltered many friends at that time. The family moved to Waukegan, Ill. in 1965 and owned a bar named the Esquire. In 1973, they moved to Lena where she worked at Frigo Cheese and Scott Paper Mill. During this time they divorced and she married Lloyd Grabowski on Nov. 2nd, 1979 and was happily married until his passing 25 years later. They owned a bar and liquor store in Lena and retired to Phoenix and Peoria Az.
They traveled in their RV and made many friends along the way, especially at Pleasant Harbor RV Resort. A volunteer for St. James Catholic Church, she was a giving person, a loving and inspirational mother and grandmother, was strong in many ways and at the same time sweet and thoughtful. She was always there to help and will be missed. Her favorite charity was Maryknoll where she sponsored a young woman from grade school through graduation. Her hobby was genealogy research and she provided volumes of history for the DeCleenes and Schumachers.
She is survived by her mother, Martha DeCleene; a daughter, Kathleen Esch; a son-in-law, Jon Esch; two grandsons; siblings Donna Marinello, JoAnn Ermis, Joseph DeCleene, John DeCleene, Liz Schott, Marie Ackmann, Rose Jackson, Vince DeCleene, Ted DeCleene, Theresa LeBreck, Matthew DeCleene and Mark DeCleene.
A visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 9 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Chapel, Peoria, Az. Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Phoenix, Az. The Heritage Funeral Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
