Karen Kay Smoot, 79, of Gillett passed away at home on Monday, Feb. 10 with her family by her side.
Born Nov. 8, 1934 to the late Leonard and Dorothy (Arnold) Janke in Milwaukee, she grew up in Hartland and married Lawrence Dick Smoot on Oct. 10, 1961 in Waukegan, Ill.
She enjoyed, knitting, crocheting, sewing, fishing, reading and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Dick of Gillett; four children, Richard (Tammy) Tulogeski and Robin (Gene) Peterson, both of Oconto Falls, Jodie Birr, of Suring and Larry (Arthur) Smoot, of Peterborough, Ontario; two siblings, Janice Klink and Jess (Kay) Janke, both of Hartland; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Pat Klink.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 11 a.m. until time of a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bill Kamke officiating. She will be interred in Hickory Cemetery in spring. A memorial fund has been established.
