The Crivitz VFW Auxiliary met on Monday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. with President Nora Swanson presiding. Roll call was taken followed by ceremonial prayers read by Carol Reichardt and reading of patriotic theme by Janet Green-Heckel. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Minutes of the previous meeting and treasurers report were approved as read.
A monetary donation was made to Hospice for Veterans, a special project of department president Dorothy Genthe. Other donations were approved for Emergency and Disaster fund and hospital projects.
There is still time to enter a name for the VFW doll with a $5 donation for the cancer fund. The Young American Creative Patriotic Art contest is due to the Crivitz VFW Ladies auxiliary by March 31. The contest is open to high school students. Art must be submitted on paper or canvas, not digital art. More information is available at www.ladiesauxvfw.org. Wisconsin has had two national winners throughout the years. Awards are given at department and national levels.
Under discussion was the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013 signed into law on Dec. 26, 2013. The budget unfairly singled out military retirees by cutting their retirement benefits, including disabled veterans who retired because of injuries. VFW is now working with allies in both the House and Senate to find a bipartisan solution to eliminate the cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) penalty. Veterans in need of support contact members of Congress. Call, fax or email your legislators to encourage them to eliminate the COLA penalty from the Bipartisan Budget Cat of 2013.
The next meeting for both VFW Auxiliary and Crivitz Post 2063 is March 10 at the Crivitz Legion Hall at 7 p.m.
