George E. Smith
George E. Smith, 88, passed away Feb. 17 at Rennes Health Center-East, where he was a resident.
Born Feb. 25, 1925, son of the late George and Myrtle (Arseth) Smith, he graduated from Marinette High School in 1943. He enlisted in the United States Army on June 16, 1943, serving in World War II and was part of the Normandy invasion. After returning from the Army, he worked at the Lloyd Plant in Menominee and then moved to Milwaukee in 1947 and worked at various jobs including Pabst Brewing Co., the City of Milwaukee and A.O. Smith, retiring in 1978.
He is survived by a brother, Gerald C. (Alta) Smith, of Nebraska; an aunt, Helen Kruse, of Marinette; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly J. Rettke and her husband Harold.
Funeral services will be announced in the spring by Berth and Rosenthal Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Marinette with military honors.
