From our readers

To the Editor:

When we think of Cathi Malke, we are reminded of her tireless work as part of the core team to get a First Responders team in place for Peshtigo. To this day, Cathi is still a member of the First Responders and she gives of her time to make sure that Peshtigo residents who need emergency care get that care as quickly as possible. Then Cathi took her concern to the students and helped to bring the Every Fifteen Minutes program to Peshtigo High School to help students understand the consequences of drinking and driving. This program is very moving and does impact the students. If it has saved one life, it has been totally worth the time and effort to have this program in Peshtigo.

The last six years Cathi Malke has served as a member of the city council. She has been very visible in the community as she checked on the progress of the improvements in the park. She has found grant money to improve the boat docks along the Peshtigo River. She made sure that the new grassy area was growing well and being cared for, and she was instrumental in the rebeautification of our city. Whenever someone from the area had a question or concern, Cathi took the time to address those questions. We did not always like the answers but we did get an explanation for our concern.

Because of Cathi’s obvious concern for our community and its citizens of all ages, we believe that Cathi Malke will serve the City of Peshtigo very well as mayor. Please consider all of her community activities and her record when you cast your vote for the new mayor of Peshtigo.

Sincerely,

Francis and Marty Sanders

Letter to Editor:

Re: Thank You to Four Young Men

Seniors are always hard to replace on next year’s team. We had almost all senior teams at times and have always come back strong and many have been great team leaders.

Not to criticize any past wrestlers or group of seniors, as they have all been great, but this group of four standouts, I believe, is going to be hard to replace.

Jackson Margis, Dexter Karban, Trevor Seewald and Richard Geimer are going to leave a huge hole in the lineup. These four and their families have been an important part of the Coleman program for over a decade and in a couple of cases, a generation.

Jackson, Dexter, Trevor and Richard were not the RAH, RAH types as they led by EXAMPLE. They always put the most into practice, wrestled up when needed, helped underclassmen and showed good sportsmanship when things went south. Off the mat, they showed the same class.

The Coleman team is graduating a lot more than four wrestlers with a combined win-loss record probably second to none.

Their leadership on the team is going to be harder to replace than their great win-loss record. What a great example and role model they are leaving for the underclassmen. They set the bar high for next year’s leaders on what a leader should be.

I want to thank them for the examples that they set for our youth and their contribution to the wrestling program and wish them well.

In conclusion, they are a STRONG REFLECTION of our Wrestling Coaching Staff.

Letter to the Editor:

We are writing in support of Cathi Malke. We have worked closely with Cathi to raise funds for the Emergency Rescue Squad, Inc. We were able to observe Cathi’s skills in many different situations. She can quickly recognize a need within the organization. Once she sees a need, she sets goals and then pursues the best path to attain those goals. She is very organized and she is team centered. She listens to all points of view, and then works very hard to see that the goals are met. When met with a challenge, she does not relent, but steps up to serve the population she represents. She always has a workable plan and she sees the job through to the end with dedication.

We believe that the leadership qualities we have observed qualify Cathi for the position of mayor of Peshtigo. She will lead in a progressive manner. Cathi will pay attention to the needs of the city while also being aware of the limitations of the budget. She will work to draw businesses into our city. Her record of service as a council member, in several different positions, qualifies her for the office of mayor of Peshtigo.

County Board Members:

Please answer the following questions for me in reference to the Shore Drive paving project:

WHY — does the County Board want to spend an extra 1.5 million dollars of taxpayer money that is not necessary?

WHY — does the County Board want to destroy a designated Wisconsin Scenic Drive?

WHY — does the County Board want to build a raceway through a residential neighborhood?

WHY — as County Board members are you allowing a county employee to act like a dictator in pushing this job through?

Any answers to these questions will be appreciated. As a Marinette County taxpayer who has a residence on Shore Drive, I would suggest the following be completed:

Resurface the Shore Drive roadway including the shoulders. This is all that is needed for now and years to come. This would result in: (1) Saving taxpayer money, (2) Saving the Scenic Drive, (3) Making a safer residential neighborhood.

In other words, it is a win-win solution for all. Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.

Sincerely,

M.K. Brezinski

Times Editor:

The City of Peshtigo will be electing a new mayor on April 1, 2014. I would like to talk about one of the persons running for this position, Cathi Malke. Cathi and I have been co-workers and friends for over four years. Cathi brings so many positive qualities to our place of employment. She is dedicated, hard working and dependable, and has a high level of integrity. She is thorough in what she does and loves her job. Cathi is always striving to make the work environment a more efficient and productive place for her co-workers. She works hard and knows how to bring fun to the work place. I enjoy coming to work because of her!

Cathi is extremely dedicated to the City of Peshtigo. I know this because many of our conversations are about her love of the city and all the changes that are taking place. She talks about upcoming events with such excitement and would like to implement more community and family activities. Her love, commitment and passion for the City of Peshtigo drive her forward in wanting to serve its residents as Mayor of Peshtigo.

I am asking the residents of Peshtigo to go out and vote on April 1, 2014. Please select the person for mayor that has served and continues to serve the city with such enthusiasm, passion and pride for the city she lives in. That person would be Cathi Malke.

Sincerely,

Vickie Eick
