Robert Konitzer, 70, Lena, passed away Wednesday, March 19 at a Green Bay hospital from complications of surgery.
Born Oct. 18, 1943 in Oconto Falls, to George and Irene (VanHaren) Konitzer, he grew up in rural Oconto Falls where he attended St. Anthony Catholic School and graduated from Oconto Falls High School in 1962. He married Sandra Mellinger and they had four children. He then married Sherri Braun April 15, 1981 in Oconto. He lived most of his life in Oconto County where he worked construction and in area cheese factories.
A member of the first wrestling team at Oconto Falls High 53 years ago, he was recently recognized by the team for his long and loyal support. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed following their sporting events and taking them on four-wheeler rides.
He is survived by his wife, Sherri Konitzer, Lena; five children, Robert Thor Tory (Michele) Konitzer, Chelmsford, Ma., Kandace Kandy Konitzer, Gillett, Kimberly K.C. (Robert) Brion, Elkhart Lake, Jamie (Pattie) Braun, DePere and Adam (Renee) Konitzer, Saukville; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his siblings, Fred (Janice) Konitzer, Gillett, Gary (Cookie) Konitzer, Wausaukee, Norene (Gary) Vorpahl, Pound, Peter (Barb) Konitzer, Abrams, Blaine (Debbie) Konitzer, Stiles, Chester (Barbara) Konitzer, Georgia Grenke, Phillip (Cheryl) Konitzer, Sam (Cindy) Konitzer and Chris (Bert) Williquette, all of Oconto Falls; three sisters-in-law, Carol Cookie Konitzer, Abrams, Rosie Tootie Konitzer, Popple River and Julie Konitzer, Oconto Falls and many nieces; nephews; relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, George Jr., Wayne, John and Curt Konitzer; a brother-in-law, Arlin Grenke; his in-laws, Bill and Marion Jaeger and a special sister-in-law, Sandy Jaeger.
Visitation was held at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 23. Visitation continued after 11 a.m. Monday, March 24 until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiated, followed by cremation with burial of the urn in the church cemetery.
