Verna M. Dishaw
Verna Mae Dishaw, 97, of Sagola, passed away Thursday, March 27 at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
Born July 22, 1916 in Dunbar, to Dan and Laura McGregor, as a young girl, she moved with her family to Sagola spending the rest of her life there. She graduated from Channing High School and married Glenn Dishaw on March 9, 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1990. She worked at McCole's Grocery Store in Sagola for many years and later worked at the Sagola Senior Citizens Center.
They had five children and she was proud of her home and loved to bake. Saturday was "baking day" and the aroma of fresh buns and sweet rolls was always in the air. She enjoyed bowling in a league, playing Michigan Rummy with friends and was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen (Keith) Rust, of Buffalo, Mn.; special daughters-in-law, Pat Dishaw, of Mansfield and Elaine Dishaw, of Racine; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sons, Neil, Lyle, Duane and Bradley and sisters and brothers, Esther Bruette, Marie Van Oss, James "Bub" McGregor, Orland "Bud" McGregor and Earl McGregor.
Visitation was held at Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola on Saturday, April 5 from 10 a.m. until time of a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. Rev. David Anderson officiated with burial in the Channing Cemetery. Donations may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church in her memory. Nash Funeral Home of Crystal Falls assisted the family with arrangements.
