Claude E. Finnell, 71, of Green Bay, passed away April 8.
Born Nov. 14, 1942 in Green Bay, son of Earl and Alice (Steinhorst) Finnel, he attended St. Lawrence Seminary for three and one half years and then graduated from Denmark High School in 1960. He joined the United States Navy reserves in High School, serving three years and served three years of active duty during the Vietnam War. He married Suzanne VanBeek on Nov. 16, 1963, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. He worked 17-1/2 years at NorthWest Engineering, eight years at Nicolet Paper Company and retired from Nelson Machine and Welding after 21 years.
A member of the Green Bay Men 's Club, Amvets and the American Legion, he was also a member of St. Philip Parish for over 50 years where he volunteered. He was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the birds and squirrels, and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Suzanne, Green Bay; three children, Nicholas Finnell, Crivitz, Ann (Bruce) Glinski, Green Bay and Kathy (Andy) Krause, Clintonville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four siblings, Gerald (Judy) Finnel, De Pere, David (Joanie) Finnel, Tennessee, Gerianne (Kenneth) Whitney, Crandon and Patrick (Chris) Finnel, Denmark; a sister-in-law, Kate VanBeek, Green Bay; many friends; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Irving and Leona (Leidel) VanBeek; a brother, Nicholas Finnel and brothers-in-law, Orin, Vernon and Alvin VanBeek.
Friends called at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, Green Bay from 9 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 12. Rev. Ralph Merkatoris officiated with entombment in the Allouez Catholic Mausoleum. A memorial fund was established with the Wildlife Sanctuary and Alzheimer 's Charities. Proko Wall Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
