Judith Jean Christiansen, 90, passed away at her daughters home in Orem, Ut. on April 21 after visiting family and friends.
Born to Robert and Mildred (Monson) Gehling in Oconto Falls, she grew up in Suring and was the second of three children. She graduated from Suring High School in 1941 and Green Bay Cosmetology School in 1942. She worked as a cosmetologist in Green Bay, Oconto Falls and Waukesha and owned two salons, Beauty Plaza and Cameo Beauty Salon in Waukesha. She married Lawrence (Larry) Christiansen in Suring on Oct. 4, 1946 and they had four children.
She enjoyed going to their family home in Suring where she had many memories and spending time with her brothers and their families and her children. She was a Green Bay Packer fan and her family was most important in her life.
In 1968 she joined the LDS Church with her daughters and in 1985, the couple moved to Orem, Ut., where she lived until passing away. An active member of LDS Church, she loved doing genealogy and gardening, was an active person, rarely went to bed before 1 or 2 a.m. and was always up by 7 a.m. and was always ready for a debate about politics. She participated in activities with her daughters and grandchildren including going down waterslides, riding in the mountains, riding snowmobiles and attending soccer and ball games until she was in her 80s. Her family enjoyed her wit, humor and direct way of telling them what she thought.
She is survived by three children, LeAnn Marie (Steve) Albrecht and Kay Joy Reiber, both of Orem, Ut. and Kathy Jo (Peter) Mehling, New Berlin; 13 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and a brother, Jerry Gehling, Suring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mildred (Monson) Gehling; husband, Lawrence (Larry) Christiansen (1992); a son, Jerry, who died at birth in 1950 and a brother, Curtis Gehling (2011).
Funeral services have been arranged by the Sundburg Olpin Mortuary in Orem, Ut. and the Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring. A viewing was held at the Sunset Heights Stake Center, Orem, Ut. from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held at Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring on Saturday, May 3 from noon until time of a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. with interment in Frostville Cemetery in Suring.
