Post 66 Memorial Day Activities Listed
Athelstane--American Legion Post 66 of Athelstane/ Silver Cliff Memorial Day schedule is Sunday, May 25 at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Park in Silver Cliff. The event will start with the raising of the U.S. flag to half staff until noon when it will be raised to full staff. This years flag will be flown in honor of Don VanDeVern, a past member of Post 66.
Following the flag raising all branches of the service flags will be brought forward by a member of the Post who served in that branch assisted by a young person from the area or a relative of the presenter.
Following all the ceremonies the Memorial Day picnic will start about 11 a.m. There will be food and beverages for sale and the country store will sell homemade pies, cakes and other goodies.
On Monday, May 26 the Post 66 Commander, Chaplain and the Post Honor Guard will hold Memorial Day services at the Athelstane cemetery at 10 a.m. Names of all veterans buried there will be read. The Wausaukee High School band will play a song followed by the Post 66 bugler playing Taps after the Honor Guard fires a 21 gun salute. The Post members will then go to the Silver Cliff cemetery for a ceremony at 11 a.m.
No regular Post 66 meeting will be held in June but the Post will host the Marinette County Council on June 21 at the Silver Cliff Town Hall.
