Take Home 21 Out Of 36 Gold Medals To Earn Co-ed Honors; Five Double Winners For Peshtigo

Finishing first in 21 out of 36 events, the Peshtigo Bulldogs made it a repeat sweep for M-O Conference track honors Friday. The Peshtigo girls pursed 11 titles, including double wins by freshman Claire Neumann in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and sophomore Saige Ruleau 800 and 1600 meter runs, to total 198 points.

The boys were just as impressive. Ten gold medals, 198 points to cruise to their third title in four years behind double winners Aaron Bhatoya 400 and 800, Tyler Nault 1600 and 3200 as well as hurdle champion Levi Sanborn.

Overall we were very pleased with everyone’s performance. We left some points on the track, but put a lot of people into events they usually do not do and they came through, Peshtigo co-head coach Rick Neumann said. With the cold and wind, we did not expect super times.

No conference records were tied or set at the meet, which was held on the rubber track in Peshtigo.

Peshtigo Girls Win 11

Events And M-O Title

The Peshtigo girls did tally most of their points in the running events.

Neumann got things rolling by turning in winning times of 13.84 and 28.47 for gold medals in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Ruleau cruised to wins in the 800 (2:37.52) and 1600 meter runs (5:47.23), Madsen captured the 400 (1:04.11), Mariah McDonough 3200 (13:06.17), Nicole Motkowski high jump 5’0 and Amanda Emmes shot put 36’9.25.

Winning times in the 800 (1:55.88), 1600 (4:22.44) and 3200 relays (11:00.07) added 30 more points to the team total. The 800 relay crew is Rebekah Sokol, Maggie Thill, Neumann and Motkowski; 1600-Madsen, Samantha Rauch, Motkowski and Ruleau; 3200- Emily Ahrens, Rauch, Taylor Sodini and McDonough.

Silver medals for Peshtigo were collected by Emmes in the discus, Madsen 800, McDonough 1600, Ahrens 3200 along with Thill in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Runner-up Suring used its depth to make things interesting in the final girls standings with 177.5 points. The Eagles won only one event, pole vault by Courtney Heimerl (7’6), but added 7 silver medals and 7 bronze efforts.

Leading the silver run was Az VanBellinger in the 100, 200 and long jump, Calley VanBellinger triple jump (31’6.75) , Brooke Gauthier shot put (33’3.75), Katie Stegeman high jump (4’10) and the 400 relay.

Third place medals for Suring were claimed by Stegeman in the 800 and 1600 runs, Calley VanBellinger long jump, Blake Seppel 400, Felecia Wachtendonk pole vault, Gauthier discus and the 800 relay.

Florence-Niagara was third in the final team standings with 96.5 points followed by Coleman 93, Gillett 59 and Crivitz 30.

We expected the girls point race to be closer and it was. We are not as strong in the field events as other teams, so we had to get our points on the track running, Neumann commented.

Trio Of Double Winners

Key Romp For Bulldogs

With Bhatoya, Nault and Sanborn all pocketing a pair of gold medals each, the Bulldogs had no trouble earning top honors at the 7-team meet. Claiming 10 first place performances and sweeping all four relays, Peshtigo totaled 198 points to easily outdistance Florence-Niagara 114, Crivitz 108, Gillett 85, Suring 84, Coleman 64 and Lena-STAA 10.

We couldn’t have asked for anything more as the boys put together a great effort. We knew they had a good shot at 3 relays and the 4x100 did a nice job as a put-together team that came from behind to finish first, Neumann said.

Bhatoya barely broke a sweat while winning the 400 in 52.25 and 800 in 2:04.96. Nault continued the distance dominance with victories in the 1600 (4:55.27) and 3200 (11:00.53) while Sanborn posted lopsided wins in the 110 hurdles (16.13) and 300 hurdles (42.84).

In the relay sweep, Alex Harper, Ben Kmecheck, Trevor Igl and Nate Larsen ran a 49.03 clocking to nip Crivitz at at the finish line 49.04. Larsen made up a big deficit on the home stretch to seal the exciting win.

The 800 quartet posted a time of 1:37.21 and consists of Kyle Gokey, Jake Ryan, Colin Hass and Jake Romenesko; 1600 relay won in 3:38.88 with Bhatoya, Sanborn, Hass and Connor Smith; 3200 relay cruised to a 23 second win at 9:26.91 with the quartet of Nault, Eddie Jornlin, Deepak Daroach ad Khalid Eljack.

The Bulldogs added six silver medals to their point total as Romenesko was second in the 200, Smith 400 and 800, Jornlin 1600, Zach Neumann shot put and Jordan Berth discus.

Tarzis Maurer, a foreign exchange student from Switzerland, sparked the co-op team of Florence-Niagara to a second place team finish. The speedy Maurer claimed the 100 meter dash in 11.65, 200 (23.74) and the long jump 21’0.5.

Second place medals for Florence-Niagara went to Danny Jones 3200 (11:07.80), Adam Parent 110 hurdles (17.77) along with the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter relays.

Coleman strong boy CJ Pillath flexed his muscles in the field events for first place in the shot put 48’8 and discus 145’11. Pillath beat a pair of Bulldogs along the way...Neumann in the shot 45’9.5 and Berth discus 132’5.

The Slaby brothers from Crivitz finished one-two in the pole vault with Tyler going 12’0 and Adam 11’6.
