Judith (Judy) Anne Nelson, 73, of Howard, passed away Saturday, May 17.
Born Jan. 1, 1941, to Mary E. and John P. Hunt in Concord, Mass., she was the fifth of 10 children. She graduated from Malden High School, Malden, Mass. in 1958 and married Gerald (Jerry) R. Nelson on Feb. 11, 1961 in Charleston, S.C. The couple moved to Menominee in 1979, after he retired from the United States Navy and he worked for Marinette Marine. In 1991 they moved to Green Bay where he worked for US Bank.
In her younger days, she was an Irish step dancer and proud of her Irish heritage. President of the Military Wives Club in La Crosse, she was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, a cultural sorority and involved in bowling and golf leagues. She was a cancer survivor since 1985. The couple enjoyed tailgating with their motor home and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. She loved celebrating Christmas and holidays with family and St. Patrick 's Day by having one glass of green beer. She will be missed by her feline buddy, Peggy Sue and all those she left behind.
She is survived by a son, Tim Nelson (Kirsten), Davenport, Ia.; a daughter, Kathleen Nelson, Howard; a granddaughter; sisters, Mary, Nancy, Susan, Connie and Kathy; brothers, Johnny, Bobby and Terry; step-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; a daughter, Tammy and a sister, Dorothy (Dolly).
A private Memorial Service will be held, followed by a Packer tailgate celebration at her daughter, Kathleens home, 1570 Cardinal Lane, Howard for friends and family from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 22. Tailgate fare will be served. The family does not wish to receive flowers.
