George A. Rank
George A. Rank died unexpectedly on May 30 of natural causes.
Born on Aug. 13, 1939, in Green Bay to Alfred and Theresa (Trybul) Rank, he attended Howe Elementary School and, at age 12, the family moved to Kelly Lake. He graduated from Oconto Falls High School with the class of 1957.
His father, Alfred Rank, opened Als Hamburger Shop at 131 S. Washington Street in 1934 and he met his future wife, Judy Raleigh, at Als. The place where they first met would become their life-long legacy. They were married April 23, 1960, the same year they took over the restaurant. The couple had five children who all worked at Als. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in April of 2010 and she preceded him in death March 10, 2012.
A member of the Moose Lodge Chapter 801 for 35 years, he obtained the title of Legionnaire. He was also a member of the Rod and Gun Club serving as President for several years.
He created The Green Bay Fun Club. His first trip ran April 22, 1976, to Nashville, TN.
Survivors include his five children, Steven Rank, Perry Rank, Angela (Tony) Kahler, Paula (Paul) Kuske, and Jennifer Rank; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Winnifred Ankebrandt; a brother, Daniel Montague; a brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Wayne and Carol Raleigh, Sandra Jussila and Anita Raleigh.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Theresa Rank; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Frances Raleigh; three brothers-in-law, Wally Ankebrandt, David Jussila, and Ronald Raleigh; three sisters-in-law, Carol Montague, Karen ODonnell, and Darlene De Bauche.
Friends called from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7 at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, Green Bay. The family led a service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of his life was at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8 at the Rite Place.
