Marines 5th, STAA 7th At State Golf

The Marinette Marines put the finishing touches on one of their best golf seasons in decades Tuesday afternoon earning a fifth place team finish at the WIAA state meet. Playing two rounds at the difficult University Ridge Golf Course, the Marines totaled a score of 663. Coach Cary Waloways linksters fired a 324 on Monday then added a 339 Tuesday.
Senior Andy Swanson paced the Marines with a score of 156 (79-77), Garrett Waloway 165 (80-85), Denin Bieberitz 170 (83-87), Dakota Langlois 172 (82-90) and Mike Wagner 197 (99-98).
Team honors went to Catholic Memorial at 607 (305-302) with Edgewood second at 614. Chris Collar of Winnebago Lutheran was medalist with a 140 total on rounds of 68-72.
On the Division 3 links, STAA finished 7th out of 8 teams, totaling a score of 755. The Cavaliers fired a 379 on Monday and came back with a 376 Tuesday.
Mike Schmidt claimed 21st place overall with a 169 (85-84), Casey Boyle 26th 172 (84-88), Levi Carlson 204 (106-98), Andy Lang 214 (104-110) and Taylor Wilson 220 (114-106).
Medalist in Division 3 was Tom Longbella of McDonnell Central with a 142 (69-73) while Lancaster took home the team title at 627 (317-310).

Putting together a score of 326, the Marines were in sixth place following the first round of the Division 2 WIAA state golf meet. Madison Edgewood paced the field with a 301 with Catholic Memorial second at 305.
Andy Swanson fired a 79 on 11 pars and seven bogeys to lead Marinette. Sophomore Garrett Waloway added an 80 (38-42), Denin Bieberitz overcame a triple bogey 7 on number 10 for an 83, freshman Dakota Langlois shot 82 and Mike Wagner 99.
In Division 3, the Cavaliers sit in 7th place at the 8-team meet with a score of 379. Casey Boyle tallied an 84, Mike Schmidt recovered from a 13 on the par-4 10th hole for an 85, Andy Lang 104, Levi Carlson 106 and Taylor Wilson 114.

Trip To State Meet
Posting a score of 366, the Cavaliers claimed a runner-up finish at the Shiocton sectional golf meet Wednesday to qualify for state. Crandon won the title with a 363 at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Hortonville followed by STAA 366 and Weyauwega-Fremont 367.
Finishing 8th was Coleman at 395, Crivitz 10th 417 and Wausaukee 11th 438.
Mike Schmidt paced the Cavaliers with an 82 on rounds of 40-42, Casey Boyle shot 83 (45-38), Stuart Anderson 98 (50-48), Levi Carlson 103 (56-47) and Andy Lang 104 (52-52).
Richie Geimer and Zach Zeitler carded rounds of 94 for Coleman, Blaine Baurer 98 for Crivitz while Blake Elias fired a 93 for Wausaukee.
Medalist round on the day was turned in by Nolan Wolberg of Iola-Scandinavia with an 80 (41-39), Schmidt was second at 82 and Boyle 4th with an 83.
The top two teams and top 3 individual not members of a qualifying team moved on.
