LaVerne M. Allgeyer
LaVerne Mildred Allgeyer, 92, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Sunday, June 15 at BAMC in Marinette.
Born Dec. 16, 1921 in Menominee, to Anton and Martha (Pfankuch) Reitmeyer, she graduated from Menominee High School in 1939. She received her nursing degree at Miseaicordia Hospital in Milwaukee and served as a nurse at the 147th General Hospital in Hawaii and at the 29th General Hospital in Korea during World War II. She married Howard P. Allgeyer on Nov. 9, 1946 in Menominee and was a school nurse for most of her life, retiring in 1982.
A member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Menominee, she volunteered with the Red Cross, received the highest award as a Girl Scout, the Golden Eaglet award, was an avid bridge player and enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Howard P. Allgeyer; two daughters, Michelle Spaude, of Menominee, Mi. and Sandra Bell, of Dover, Del.; a son, Howard M. Rusty (Leticia) Allgeyer, of Bay City, Tx.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 18 at Cadieu Thielen Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until time of a Vigil Prayer Service at 6 p.m. with Fr. Mark McQuesten presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, for the repose of her soul on Thursday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with Fr. McQuesten presiding. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee with military honors by the Military 20 Year Club.
A memorial fund has been established in her name for the Spies Public Library.
