Don Binkowski, 84, of Green Valley, Az., passed away Friday, June 13. His parents were Helen and Leo Binkowski, who owned Helen & Leos Supper Club in Pound.
A former area sportscaster, he was one of the areas top bowlers and member of the Green Bay-Bay Area USBC Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He was a sportscaster for WBAY radio and TV and host of Channel 2s Northeastern Wisconsin Championship Bowling show for many years.
He ranked as one of the citys top bowlers, competing in the Green Bay Major, where he was a member of the 1974-75 Sportsman Lodge championship team. He won the average title in the 1979-1980 season and was runner-up three times, finishing second to Carl Joppe in 1969-70 and 1970-71 and to Jerry Garrity in 1977-78. He was the citys 25 year composite average leader for six consecutive years during the 1962-63 to 1991-92 era.
He won the GBBA Masters scratch tournament the first year it was held during the 1989-90 season and was elected to the GBBA Hall of Fame in 1979. In addition to his on-lanes accomplishments, he was a member of the GBBA board of directors and was president of the GBBA for 22 years.
