William Bill C. Vande Hei, 80, of De Pere, passed away on Thursday, June 12 surrounded by his family.
Born March 6, in Manitowoc, to William H. and Anne (Groffman) Vande Hei, he married the former Mary Ann Borst in Marinette on Dec. 26, 1955. He served in the United States Navy and worked for Wisconsin Public Service for 34 years.
A member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Abbot Pennings Council 3955, where he served as a Grand Knight. A District Officer, he was instrumental in starting the Tootsie Roll Drive and for 28 years played Santa Claus for special needs children in the area.
He coached baseball, helped the Drum & Bugle Corps of Menominee, worked at the Green Bay Bobcats Hockey games and enjoyed hosting Naval reunions in Green Bay and throughout the country. The couple wintered in Arizona and also enjoyed the time at the cottage at Three Lakes.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; four children, Deb (Lee) Mosbrucker, of Roseville, Ca., Cindy (Joe) Sherwood, Karen (Kevin) Ploof and Bill (Kelly) Vande Hei; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother John (Joan) Vande Hei; sisters-in-law Eunice Borst and Morie Borst; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Mary Borst and brothers-in-law Tom Borst and Bob Borst.
Family and friends visited from 9 a.m. until time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, Green Bay. Fr. Bob Rank presided, followed by military rites with entombment in Fort Howard Mausoleum.
