Chris Metras Hired As Pembine Administrator

Contract for the new administrator of the Pembine-Beecher-Dunbar School District was among various contracts approved when the Pembine School Board met Wednesday, June 25. The new administrator is Chris Metras.

Metras is a native of Rockford, Ill. where he attended private school from K-12. He received a bachelor of science degree in musical education in South Carolina and then pursued a master of science in education administration from Northern Illinois University at Dekalb, Ill. He completed his internship at Shirland/Rockton area in Illinois, just south of the Wisconsin border. He has been involved in a middle school of 180 students and a high school of 2,400 students.

Metras has taught in both private and public schools for 12 years and then at Northland International University at Dunbar for the last three years were he was director of campus music and a professor and department chairman.

I love the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine (BDP) community and thrilled to be a part of it. The BDP area is a hidden gem, he wrote. His children have attended the Pembine school for the past three years. I look forward to serving these parents and community members and participating in the educational development of these students

Extra-Curricular positions for 2014-15 were Bus Supervision Barbara Dykstra; Detention Hall Elementary Deana Anderson and Sue Treado; Detention Hall High School Marlene Mottes; Dramatics Geana Papp; Football Assistant Coach Brian Bousley; Forensics Co-Advisors Barbara Dykstra and Geana Papp; Hi-Q Advisor Heather LaVarnway; Literacy Coordinator Maureen Schiefelbein; Lunch Time Supervision High School Steve Sigmund and Dale Vajko; Music Duties Rick LaFleur; National Honor Society Vincent Czahor; SADD Advisor Marlene Mottes; STAT Chairperson Lynn Stankevich; Student Council Co-Advisors Deborah Scriven and Melissa Hirte; Technology Coordinator Vincent Czahor; Volleyball High School Head Coach Ashley Kalkofen and Assistant Coach Annette Braaten.

Summer School Contracts were approved and signed for Brenda DalSanto Staying Fit and Having Fun; Sara Seidel For Dogs Lovers Only; Brenda Smeaton for Paper Mache Fun and Robert Knox for Drivers Education Classroom.

Teacher contracts approved and signed were for Vincent Czahor, Library/Technology Specialist/DAC Coordinator and Stefanie Goyak full time Business Education teacher.

In other action, the Board approved the Building Services Group’s proposal for 2014-15 for the amount of $57,600.

Lunch prices set for 4K-12 grade was $2.55 for 2014-15 at the Wednesday meeting. However on Thursday, June 26, by phone polling of Board members lunch ticket prices were set at $2.45.

Approved and signed were the agreements with the Florence School District to purchase one day per month of Library Media Specialist services and School Psychologist services as needed.

Also approved and signed was the Valley Area Reading Recovery Consortium Cooperative agreement.

The Board approved paying the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine Little League $1000 for materials they had purchased and used on the school’s softball field. Abstaining was Ryan Berger.

Approved were minutes of the Regular Board meeting and closed session of May 12 and minutes of Special Meetings and Closed Sessions of May 22 and June 3.

The Board was also informed that the Wisconsin Partnership for Childhood Fitness awarded the Middle School $1,000 for implementing strategies to increase physical activity in the classes of Mrs. Brenda Dal Santo.

A donation was received from the Green Bay Packers. it consisted of 5 Fit Kids Sports Balls which will be used as prize incentives for the district’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports programming.
