Phillip John Tjernagel, 38, of Appleton passed away at home with his wife by his side on Saturday, June 28.
Born Sept. 25, 1975 in Marinette, to John and Judy (Schewe) Tjernagel, he graduated from Northwestern Preparatory School in 1994 and Wisconsin Lutheran College in 2000. He was employed at PDI Financial as Regional Marketing Director.
He was a devoted husband, dad and step-dad and enjoyed spending time with his family. One of his favorite family activities was going to High Cliff and Calumet County Parks, along with weekend getaways to Chicago. His love of football began as a player in high school, college and continued with his devotion to the Packers which he shared with his children. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and also took pride in his Norwegian heritage and was a car enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Beth (Abbott); a daughter, Riley; a son, Reid; step-daughters, Krya and Brynn; parents, John and Judy; a brother, Dan (Carrie) a niece; a sister, Christine; in-laws, Gary and Susan; brother-in-law, Matthew (April) and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sigurd and Gertrude Tjernagel and Pastor Erwin and Louise Schewe and an uncle, James Tjernagel.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 6 at Mt. Olive Ev. Lutheran Church, 930 E. Florida Ave., Appleton. Funeral services will be held at the church on Monday, July 7 at 11 a.m. A memorial fund for the children has been established at Community First Bank. Heart of the Valley Crematory of Kimberly is assisting the family with arrangements.
