Vintage Mods To Appear At UPIR Track
This Saturday's race marks the second annual Art Richer Memorial Race. Joining UPIR to celebrate local Racing Legends from the 60's and 70's are the Milwaukee Vintage Modifieds, bringing racing action back to its roots. The Art Richer Family has kindly donated trophies to be awarded to feature winners. Racing in honor of Art Richer, gives this event the prestige that it has already gained in one year. Engineered Machine Products is sponsoring this event filled night of racing.
Although the past few weeks UPIR has had trouble with Mother Nature, the racing action this year has already been incredible. The 2014 Bays de Noc Visitor and Convention Bureau UPIR Season has been one of the most eventful in the five year history of the UPIR Action Track. In the opening weeks we have seen non-stop three wide, wheel to wheel, bumper to bumper action, along with NASCAR driver Ken Schrader taking to the UPIR Action Track. Not only has the racing been close, but the finishes have also been extremely exciting, with several races for each division coming down to the final turn of the final lap. If anything has been set in stone this year, it is that nothing is set in stone. Several races have seen leaders blowing engines or tires in the final laps, or even spinning and crashing. The unpredictability of this year's racing is reason alone to make your way to the UPIR Action Track.
The Milwaukee Vintage Modifieds are an exciting event for everyone. Whether it is remembering watching these types of cars race when you were a kid, or your kid seeing these cars for the first time, it is a great way to remember days of racing's past. At least fourteen Vintage Modifieds will be coming to the UPIR Action Track. Two of the vintage modifieds were formerly owned by Bob Iverson and Jerry Richer who wheeled the cars around the track. Iverson and Richers are among the most remembered racing names in the Upper Peninsula, with several generations of drivers coming from each family. To get a better view of the Vintage Mods, front gates will open at 4 PM EST, allowing fans to get a first-hand view of the Mods during a meet and greet session that will run 4-6 PM EST.
Along with the Mods, local Racing Legends from the 60's and 70's will also be in attendance at the meet and greet. This truly interactive fan experience will feature drivers that many fans grew up watching, along with the Milwaukee Vintage Mod drivers. Share stories and memories, with the drivers that helped make them. After the meet and greet has been wrapped up, a full slate of racing with Sport 4's, Street Stocks; Junior, 500 and 600 Micro-Sprints, Modifieds and some of the Vintage Mods will tear up the dirt on the UPIR Action Track. For any local drivers from the 60's and 70's that would like more information about the meet and greet, please call 906-241-9873 or 906-399-7760. Children 10 and under can register for bicycles donated by David Tovar 3D Racing. Admission is $5, with 10 and under free. The front gate opens at 4 PM EST, followed by the driver meet and greet, with the green flag dropping at 6 PM EST. Located at the UP State Fairgrounds, UPIR is your home to local dirt track racing. www.upirtrack.com.
