THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Susan P. Mittlestaedt
Susan Sue (Bjick) Mittlestaedt, of Crooked Lake area and Apache Junction, Az., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Milwaukee in 1946, she grew up there and in Marinette and graduated from Marinette High School in 1964. In 1966, she married Jerry Mittlestaedt and moved to the Chicago area. There, they raised a family and turned neighbors, co-workers and many others into life-long friends with her quick smile, good sense of humor, generous hospitality, strong sense of honesty, integrity, and grace.
A devoted wife and mother, she was a good mentor and role model for many. She enjoyed being with family and friends, gardening, walking, hiking and decorating with antiques she found at yard and rummage sales. She was a Green Bay Packer backer and enjoyed being with her grandchildren, who called her gram. Her family and friends have many stories of acts of kindness, patience, fun times spent together and of wisdom they learned during walks in the woods, doing household chores, or driving with her. She was a good cook, hosting many family dinners and gatherings with wit and a welcome feeling.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; two sons Jim (Terrie), of Naperville, Ill. and Jerry (April), of Carol Stream, Ill.; a daughter, Tami (Alec) Wanless, of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; seven grandchildren; a brother, Dave (Robin) Bjick, of Apple Valley, Mn.; a sister, Debra (Gene) Alsteen, of Crooked Lake; many nephews; nieces; cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Betty Bjick, of Crooked Lake.
A Memorial Service will be held at Tabor Lutheran Church in Mountain on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. Peace Of Mind Funeral and Cremation Services of Milwaukee is assisting the family with arrangements.
