THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
David P. LeRoy
David Paul LeRoy, 62, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on April 13, 2017 after a long illness.
He attended Marinette Catholic Central High School. In 1977 he graduated from Lawrence University with a degree in music where he studied oboe with Professors John Cameron and Fred Schroeder. David had fond memories of the University and was hoping to attend his 40th reunion this June.
While living in Marinette he directed several area church choirs, taught private oboe lessons and was active in Theater on the Bay.
David moved to Florida where he taught at the Madison Street Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. His students loved him so that when his walking was becoming difficult they gave him a rocking chair so he could sit to teach.
David was a member of St. Mark's Methodist Church Ocala, Florida where he directed the choir for over 25 years.
David loved music and his choir loved him. They had a huge party when he retired. His love of music began when he was a child listening to Loony Tune cartoons. Despite his deteriorating health, David never gave up. He was known for his smile, laugh and love of life. Students, their parents, parishioners, friends and family will sadly miss him. "David is now home in heaven walking free of pain on the streets of gold with Jesus and his loved ones."
He is survived by four brothers, Daniel (Debra) LeRoy of Austin, Texas, Dennis LeRoy of Surprise, Arizona, Douglas LeRoy of Peshtigo and Dean LeRoy (Becky) of Marinette; two sisters, Debra Pyland of Oklahoma City and Diana Salazar of Marinette; nephews, Ruben (Melissa) Salazar and their children Ruben and Nico, and Jason (Kelly) Limberg; nieces, Samantha (Fiancée Nick Philipps) Salazar and Desiree and Delaina LeRoy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Dorothy LeRoy.
His family would like to thank Pastor Sue and friend Will Madison for all their help. A memorial service will be held at the Forest Home Cemetery Mausoleum in Marinette, WI on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 12 noon with Pastor Tim Hawthorne officiating. All are welcome! Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home is assisting the family. A memorial service will also be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church Ocala, Florida on April 22nd at 11:00 a.m. His devoted students will be honoring him by providing special music.
