Richard Lee Cairns, Jr., 59, of Menominee, Mi., passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 in his sleep, surrounded by family at Rennes Health Center-East from complications due to bladder cancer.
Born Aug. 12, 1957 at Fort Rucker Army Base in Alabama, to Richard Cairns and Patricia (Lemke) Tharp, he graduated from Menominee High School in 1975 and NWTC in 1990 with a journeyman electrical certificate.
On Aug. 27, 1994, he married Nikki (Bevers) in Peshtigo and was happily married for over 24 years. An entrepreneur in real estate, he also owned Lemke Electric. In 2016, he retired from Marinette Marine and a Chief Electrical Inspector.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, snowmobiling, anything remote controlled, motorcycles and music, but mostly visiting and vacationing with his grandchildren. He played drums in a few local bands over the years and was a former DCI champion playing in the Northernaires and Blue Note Drum and Bugle Corps. He spent most of his weekends with friends and family and was a devoted Packer fan.
He is survived by his wife, Nikki; two sons, Richard Lee Cairns III (Amy) and Benjamin; a daughter, Holly; his mother, Patricia Tharp (Lemke); his father, Richard Lee Cairns, Sr. (Jenny); a sister, Pamela Ratz (Cairns); three brothers, Kenneth (Karen), Jamie (Jenn) and Donald Tharp, Jr. and five grandchildren.
Visitation was held at Hansen Onion Martell Funeral Home in Marinette on Monday, May 15 from 4 p.m. until time of a Celebration of Life Service at 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
