Athelstane to Leave Joint Municipal Court

Athelstane-The regular monthly meeting of the Athelstane Town Board was called to order by Chairman John Dobratz on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 7 PM in the Town Hall. All officers were present except Treasurer Greg Reinhardt along with 16 people. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and on motion of Harold Tesch with a second by David Jose the agenda was approved.
During public comment Bruce Muller questioned if the snowplowing will be continued for this year and was told that it would be.
The minutes were accepted as read and bills were approved.
Fire Chief Scott Durian in his fire department report said they had one meeting, two training meetings, one lift assist, one ATV accident and one tree on the power lines.
The Aug. 8 Plan Commission report by Kelly Barnes said Ordinance #8-Eyesore is recommended tthat all ordinances be enforced equally, fairly and consistently, including #8 which states the property owner has 60 days to correct the situation and on the 61st day they will be fined as stipulated in the ordinance.
Clerk Janice DuChateau gave the Treasurer's report which noted June 30 Balance of $397,156.46, receipts to number 981 $141,551.22 and disbursements $100,662.48 for a month ending July 31 total of $438,045.20. Checking had $7,915.50, Tax Money Market $152,281.86, General Money Market $162,718.57, Certificate of Deposit $115,129.27, for the $438,045.20 total.
Public Works employee, Kelly LaCount, said washouts along the roads are being repaired and grass cut, also will be working on the concrete slab for the porta-potty at the cemetery.
Under old business discussed was acquiring a compactor for garbage and a compactor for recyclables at the Recycling Center. The contract from Waste Management to acquire compactors for the Recycling Center were accepted.
A proposal to amend Ordinance #11-Private Road Designs " to amend Section 3. exception " snowplowing of private roads will be allowed pursuant to a signed snowplow contract currently in effect.
A proposal to amend Ordinance #12 " Private Driveway Standards " to add Section 5. Snowplowing of private driveways will be allowed pursuant to a signed snowplow contract currently in effect. There will be no custom plowing.
The Town will withdraw from the Northern Joint Municipal Court effective Dec. 31.
