Richard E. "Rick" Gove, 67, of De Pere, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017 at home of a heart attack.
Born Oct. 28, 1949 in Lena, to the late Richard W. and Ida (Dumke) Gove, he graduated from Lena High School and served in the United States Marine Corp Reserve for 6 years. He married Susan O'Neil on April 24, 1971 and they shared 46 years together.
He grew up working on his family farm in Lena and continued to working the farm until 1984. He also worked at Cruisers in Oconto for 22 years and Beck's Quality Cabinets and Brown County Cabinets for many years. The last few years he was employed at Town and Country Stables.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and shared this love with his grandchildren. He loved to putz around with stuff, could fix anything and helped others when he could. He will be remembered as a quiet man with a quick wit and sense of humor, but mostly as a loving, selfless person to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; three children, John (Lindsay) Gove, Charles "Chuck" (Brenda) Gove and Stephanie (James Peterson) Gove; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild with one on the way; brothers and sisters, Roy (Violet) Gove, Mary Jane Melberg and Alvina (Robert) Johnson; brother-in-law, Roland Lemke; his father-in-law, John R. O'Neil; a sister-in-law, Carol (Cletus) Courchaine; two brothers-in-law, John (Corrine) O'Neil and Todd O'Neil and many nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ida May Lemke; a nephew, Michael Lemke; his mother-in-law, Donna O'Neil and two brothers-in-law, Tom Melberg, and Melvin O'Neil.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Newcomer Funeral Home.
