Oktoberfest Returns to Downtown Iron Mtn.
The Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority (DDA) announces the return of Oktoberfest Saturday, Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The festival will take place in the city parking lot located at the intersection of East A Street and Iron Mountain Street. Sponsor is First National Bank and Trust. Wrist bands are $8 at the entrance and free for ages 12 and under. All proceeds benefit the Iron Mountain DDA which works to support economic development, historic preservation and the revitalization of Iron Mountain's Downtown area.
The day will kick off with the Iron Mountain Road & Trail Half Marathon begining and ending at the enterance of Oktoberfest. Particpants in the race will get free entry to the event. A second polka band was added this year, is working with Spiros Downtown Restaurant on a German menu and have added eight Oktoberfest beers including two that are exclusive to our event.
Musical entertainment features The Johnson Bluegrass Band from 12:30 to 3 p.m., Spotlight Polka Band from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Live Wire Polka Band from 7:30 to 10:45 p.m., sponsored by BOSS Snowplow. The children's area will captivate all ages with free face painting and balloon animals through Mischeif and Magic, as well as free bounce houses from ACA Jumps. In addition, Festmeister Mark Klossner returns to lead chants and songs.
Fest goers will also enjoy games of Hammerschlagen, sponsored by Smith Metal Structures and beer stein holding competitions. Men and women over the age of 21 can sign up online for three different heats of this activity for $10. The championship round will take place at 6:30 p.m. New this year is a Ms. Oktoberfest contest which will take place at 6:45 p.m., where three women will compete in the following categories: German clothing, beer identification and German pronounciation. Interested individuals must be 21 years of age or older to participate and can sign up online.
