Coleman Cougars Team Up to Tackle Cancer
Coleman"For the fifth consecutive year, the Coleman High School Cougars will host a "Tackle Cancer" football game to help raise awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer.
Douglas Polomis, Coleman High School Principal and Superintendent, in a letter announcing the event stated:
"For the past four years, the Coleman School District has sponsored at "Tackle Cancer" football game and raised close to $53,000 for the fight against breast cancer. Part of the money raised helped offset expenses of 2013 recipient Mrs. Ginny O'Harrow, 2014 recipients, Mrs. Lori Beland and Mrs. Jannie Marsolek, 2015 recipients, Ms. Tammy Wood, Mrs. Linda Kaufman, and Bonnie Roerdink and 2016 recipients, Mrs. Carol Ehlinger, Mrs. Wendy Harris, Ms. Gina Mongin, Mrs. Paula Seewaldt and Mrs. Britta Sorenson. These ladies are community members who were being treated for various stages of Breast Cancer. In addition, a donation was made to Bay Area Cancer Center in Marinette. Without the support of several members of the Coleman Business Association, these monetary donations would never have been possible," Polomis concluded.
Last year, local businesses pledged $100 for each touchdown scored, and then had their name announced over the PA when either team found the endzone. The support for this cause was amazing and all touchdown sponsors are announced before, during, and after the game.
Because of the tremendous amount of positive feedback received the last four years, Polomis said, "we hope our 5th annual fundraiser will help other local families dealing with this dreadful disease. With only two October home football games, the "Tackle Cancer" football game is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 13, at 7 P.M. when the Cougars will host the Southern Door Eagles.
Again, they will offer $100 "touchdown" sponsorships. However, to encourage even more business involvement, they are also offering $50 "first-down" sponsorships; each time a team earns a first-down, a business name will be announced to the crowd. Besides the "touchdown" and "first-down" sponsorships, businesses may also contribute to this cause by donating prizes to the bucket raffle that will take place during the game. All businesses that contribute to this event will be further recognized on a flyer inserted in the game program.
