THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
William "Bill" Zona, 88, of Stephenson, Mi., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 at Roubal Care and Rehab Center.
Born Sept. 9, 1929 in Nesquehoning, Pa., to the late John and Elizabeth (FiLus) Zona, he served in the United States Air Force and married the former Margaret "Peg" LaComb in Denver, Co. on Nov. 1, 1951. He was manager of Cassen Transport Company for many years, retiring in 1990. After retirement, he delivered newspapers for over 20 years.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and time with his family. A member of Precious Blood Catholic Church, he also belonged to the American Legion Post #43 of Stephenson where he was past commander.
Survivors include his wife, Peg of Stephenson, Mi.; four children, David (Gail) of Crown Point, In., Nancy (William) Halsema of Indianapolis, In., Donald (Shirley) Gainesville, Ga. and Daniel (Cheryl) of Stephenson, Mi.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Duane; seven brothers and four sisters.
Family received friends at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. until time of Military Rites at 10:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Precious Blood Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Fr. Ronald Timock officiated with burial in Stephenson Township Cemetery.
