THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Robert "Bob" Eftedahl, 89, passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 at Brewster Village in Appleton.
Born June 21, 1928 in Menominee, Mi., the only child of Ole M. and Emma H. (Wolff) Eftedahl, he graduated from Menominee High School in 1946 and attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis from 1946 until 1948. He then graduated from Michigan State in 1950. He married the former Jean B. Whitney on Sept. 20, 1952 and they shared 55 years together.
He was drafted into the United States Army on Nov. 7, 1950, attended OCS, was relieved from active duty in 1953 as a Second Lieutenant and joined the Officer Reserve Corps and became Captain when he left the Army in 1963. A member of the Johnston Blessman Post #38 American Legion, he participate in the Old Glory Honor Flight with his daughter, Diane in 2015
He worked in traffic, purchasing and sales for various employers including Ansul Chemical in Marinette, Cruisers Inc. in Oconto and Appleton Machine Company (Wartsila, Valmet, Metso), retiring in 1977.
He spent many Friday nights at the Lox Club enjoying the food and visiting with staff and friends, especially his close friend, Sally. He volunteered driving the elderly, giving blood, was a member of the Appleton Elks Lodge, volunteered at Brewster Village and made sure others were being taken care of.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane (Mike) Hawkins of Cloverleaf Lakes, Clintonville and two step-granddaughters; three step-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jean and a son, Mark.
Family and friends gathered at Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton on Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 4 p.m. until time of a Memorial Service at 7 p.m. Memorials to the Old Glory Honor Flight would be appreciated.
