Carol M. Powell, 89, of Breitung Township, Mi., formerly of Goodman, passed away Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at Evergreen Heights Assisted Living in Kingsford, Mi.
Born May 20, 1928 in Norwood, to the late Earl and Ethel (Nonnenmacher) Olson, she graduated from Antigo High School in 1946. She married Kenneth Powell on June 30, 1950 in Antigo and he preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2016. They lived in Elton before moving to Goodman in October of 1958. She worked at Goodman Veneer Mill from 1968 until 1993.
A member of Union Protestant Church in Goodman, she was a founding member of the Goodman-Armstrong Creek Rescue Squad and also belonged to the Martell-Musiaw American Legion Post #325 Auxiliary for over 50 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Kay (Glen) Meyer, Fence; a son, Bruce (Sharon) Powell, Bradley, Ill.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Connie Powell, Donna LaPage and Carol O'Meara, all of Antigo; two brothers-in-law, Lionel Robinson, Bolingbrook, Ill. and Ralph Kelpsas and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Kenneth, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd (Lola) Olson and Keith Olson; a grandson, Justin Powell; six brothers-in-law, Jim (Norma) Powell, Clifford Powell, Thomas Powell, George O'Meara, Mike LaPage and Gary Powell and two sisters-in-law, Dulcia Robinson and Marty Kelpsas.
Visitation will be held at Union Protestant Church in Goodman on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral services at noon. Rev. Henry Yoap will officiate with burial in Goodman Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Goodman-Armstrong Creek Rescue Squad in her memory. Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron Mountain is assisting the family with arrangements.
