Country All Conference Spots
Seven Peshtigo cross country runners found spots on the Packerland all-conference first or second teams this season, along with two runners from Oconto.
For the Peshtigo boys, senior Tyler Lund and junior Cole Trimberger placed on the first team, running times of 17:01.80 and 17:20.77 at the conference meet, respectively.
Lund "approaches practice with a "let's do it' attitude," Peshtigo Coach Keith Nault said. "Tyler is a fearless racer who is not afraid to go out with the leaders. This year was a breakout year for Tyler. He had the conditioning to run strong, steady race paces to keep up with the frontrunners."
Trimberger started the year with a leg injury and had to work back to full strength.
"Cole is a strong racer who is always able to put himself into good position to finish near the top in important races," Nault said of the junior.
Junior Reid Marqaurdt was one spot from the first team, as he was the fastest runner on the second team at the conference meet. Freshman Caleb Smith also found himself on the second team as the 10th fastest runner in the conference.
Two Peshtigo girls made state, and the same two qualified for the first team in the Packerland. Junior Alana Finger and Senior Katrina Salmen were the third and fourth-fastest runners on the girls' side, with teammate Viola Smith, a junior, taking a spot on the second team.
Salmen was a Bulldog team captain. Nault said of the senior, "She is a consistent runner who has shown steady improvement leading up to the conference meet."
On Alana, Nault said "She is an instinctive racer who frequently deviates from the plan to run the race as it develops," noting the Wausau East meet when her times began to drop heading down the stretch of the season.
Oconto senior Kyle Stoll placed on the second team, while freshman Josh Woller moved onto state and earned a spot on the first team as the fifth-fastest runner in the conference.
