Coleman FFA Off To a Fast Start

Issue Date: November 22, 2017

Coleman FFA is off to an amplified start of the year. Attending leadership conferences across the state and making things happen in their hometown.

FFA's mission is to develop its members potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Coleman FFA is doing to learn and living to serve.

Coleman FFA attended the Sectional Leadership Workshop on September, 19 at Waupaca High School in Waupaca,Wisconsin. The Wisconsin FFA Sectional Leadership Workshop is designed to prepare local FFA chapter officers and members both in high school and middle school for leadership roles in their school district for the upcoming year. It also informs each chapter of the new programs available to all FFA members and allows the officers to exchange ideas with other FFA chapters in their area. The 2017-2018 State FFA Officer Team planned and conducted this workshop to encourage the participants to develop their leadership potential, to challenge them to set personal and chapter goals for the year and to motivate the students to take advantage of the many opportunities available to them through the FFA. The 2017 theme was "FFA Ever After". Members left ready to promote FFA, agricultural education and agriculture in their schools and communities. Typically only officers attend this from the Coleman FFA, but since the whole team wasn't able to come, a few new members came as well. The officers who attended were Kelly Polomis, Jesse Meyer, Rhiley Peterson, and Emily Cudnohosky. The members were Alex Prestine, Gabby Schulte, and Alexis Witak.

A few days later, on September 30,"Five members attended the Wisconsin Association of FFA FIRE Conference, at the Fox Valley Technical College Campus in Appleton, Wisconsin. FIRE stands for "Foundations in Reaching Excellence." . The Wisconsin FFA FIRE Conference is designed to inform beginning FFA members about the FFA and motivate them to participate in its many activities. Students learned about communication skills, social skills, goal setting, FFA awards and programs, and opportunities in agriculture along with developing leadership skills to help them be effective members in their local chapters. The conference is conducted by the 2017-2018 State FFA Officer Team along with assistance from the FVTC-Appleton Post Secondary Agricultural Student Organization. The conference was centered around the theme "Destination Unknown - The Possibilities are Limitless". All of the state officers encouraged students that attended the FIRE Conference to set goals for their FFA involvement and meet people from around the state who can help them reach those goals. Not only does this conference help students understand the FFA organization and all its opportunities, but helps them develop skills in meeting people, working with others and setting goals with a plan of action. The freshman members who attended this were Ember DeWitt, Logan Liptak, Thomas Bartnik, Cahl Szabo, and Dakota Birr.

On Saturday, October 21 the FFA advisor, officers and members decorated the Coleman Nature Center as a haunted forest, of terror. On Saturday we gathered together at 4p.m. to start decorating and trimming up the forest. This consisted, by using props, makeup, and our talents to scare kids for a good cause. A tour guide took kids of different ages through the forest for a $3.00 admission fee (kids 7 and under got in free). The trail was open 7-10 p.m. The money that was made went towards the Coleman Nature Center. The amount made at the event was $442.00 that went to the Coleman Nature Center.

October 24-28, Coleman FFA was represented at National FFA Convention by Jesse Meyer, Emily Cudnohosky, Rhiley Peterson, Alexandria Broderick, and Advisor- Ms. Wautier. The ladies toured lumber processing plant, cranberry bog, John Deere seeder plant, and attended Career Show and Leadership Keynote speakers across the midwest. The ladies returned with renewed spirit and many ideas for our Chapter.

On November 6, fifteen FFA members headed to the Coleman Park to clean up the leaves. The maple leaf clad park was soon cleaned up and ready for winter in record time. Coleman FFA members live to serve our community.

Thanks to all the members and community for continual support of Coleman FFA. Look for us in Pound Parade and delivering wreaths to spread some Christmas Cheer the weekend of Dec. 8th.
