Mary Koehne, 94, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, two weeks short of her 95th birthday.
Born Dec. 8, 1922 in Appleton, to Antone and Barbara (Beck) Koehne, she attended Appleton High School and graduated from the UW-LaCrosse in 1948, with a teaching degree in physical education. In college, she was a summer camp counselor.
She taught one year each in Marinette and Appleton before returning to Marinette. She taught in many Marinette Grade Schools and Middle School before retiring in 1976. One of her accomplishments was having track Olympics at the end of the school year for grade schools.
She wintered in Mesa, Az. in 1986 and had an apartment in Tucson, Az. from 1987 to 2004. She enjoyed swimming in the sunshine and her many snowbird friends. A giving person, she supported many charities, was an avid bowler and golfer and a past member of Little River Country Club, River Cities Community Pool and Holy Family Parish.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and a good friend, Darlene "Cookie" Grandaw.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by nine brothers, James, Anthony, George, Fr. David, Karl, Robert, Paul, Richard and Thomas.
Burial will be alongside her parents and brother at St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton. Donations can be made to River Cities Community Pool Association, 1125 University Drive, Marinette, WI 54143. Wichmann Fargo Funeral Homes of Appleton is assisting the family.
